Each one hour session will introduce a different contemplative prayer practice and allow time for participants to experience the prayer in the quiet, with time for reflection in solitude and in community. Historical and theological background information will be provided, as well as printed handouts for personal or ministry use. Most sessions will include a link to a downloadable mp3 file with a guided experience of the prayer practice. Music for individual reflection will be available for thirty minutes prior and afterwards, so that you might extend your time of private meditation.
Use this simple prayer practice to invite God into your breathing. The Breath Prayer is a helpful way to relax, reduce stress and regain a peaceful balance. The Jesus Prayer and other methods of Sentence Prayer will also be introduced.
February 26th - Praying with the Examen
Using the Prayer of Examen and the three strains in Celtic harp music (rest, sorrow, joy), we will examine moments of thanksgiving, struggle, and grace in our lives. Contemplative live harp music will be offered.
March 5th - Release Prayer
What are you holding onto so tightly that it is getting in the way of you being the person that God desires for you to be? Release Prayer is a method of letting go, and being at peace with a situation, a relationship or a deep concern for another.
March 12th - Lectio Divina
Explore this ancient prayer of "sacred reading." Engage scripture as you move through four stages of Lectio: Reading, Meditation, Prayer and Contemplation. Also included in this session will be an introduction to "Midrash Prayer."
March 19th - Praying the Hours
We will explore the "spirit" of the monastic hours and learn ways to incorporate into our daily lives, the Psalms and prayers specific to the Hours. Contemplative live harp music will be offered, as well as ways to chant the Psalms.
March 26th - Centering Prayer
True contemplative prayer invites us to approach God without words or even without thoughts. Centering Prayer allows us to glimpse true contemplation, by using one word of your choice to remind you of your prayer intent.
